Are you running towards something or away? We're really good at knowing what we don't want.

But if we're constantly running away, then where are we going? Somewhere that isn't here? To some job that isn't like this one? To a place where I won't eat this piece of pie?

Sometimes an open field is the destination, but at least we know that's where we're going because we want to be there.

We introduce Age, because she's coming to meet you. She actually introduced herself when your mama started crowning, but it usually takes a little while for her to convince you she's not just an imaginary friend. Age is one, amongst a plethora of exciting, tummy-tickling, heart-jerking, real-deal, new-topics we're exploring here at That's What She Said Project.

I was ecstatic when Amanda de Cadenet called me right after the site launched to express her excitement and support for this project. Her encouragement and kindness to share her own story inspired me deeply.  Amanda's show, The Conversation, is profoundly progressive. The beauty is two -fold. She's using the power of celebrity to show ALL women that it's ok to speak honestly about infidelity, sex positions, sagging breasts, death, all kinds of insecurities and so much more. But, Amanda's also breaking down the wall we often feel divides us from the A-listers that seem so Goddess-like they must not even poop.

We see that these women are flawed, goofy, insecure, and often feel lost just like everyone else.

We can open any magazine a read about them going to fancy parties and staying at the Ritz, but what resonates is when they talk about the real stuff we all feel. To me, I'm more in-awe of these women now, the same way I'm in awe of all of the women that have opened up in interviews with That's What She Said.

One of That's What She Said's new ladies is my 95 year old Granny Ruth. She's let me film her for years and is such a great sport. She is also one of the most amazing women ever born in the history of the universe. Stay tuned!!

If you want something cool to do, walk around and contemplate all the people doing things you never would in 95 (plus) degree weather. Yesterday at roughly 11:30 am I spotted a girl, wearing tight dark denim jeans and a long sleeved button-down shirt, sitting in direct sunlight at an outdoor cafe drinking a Bud and eating what I understood to be a foot-long ground cheeseburger sub-roll with a side mess of fries smothered in mayo and ketchup. I saw a guy with a bushy head of hair wearing a three-piece-suit. A jogger in sweat-pants wearing Sony-pro headphones. Hey lady, why wear long black pants AND a cardigan? Dude, why are you sitting there under the sun in a black shirt and dark pants smoking a clove cigarette with your hot coffee and jumbo croissant?

A fur hat in Williamsburg? Say what? Pants in general? Are ya kidding?

Also, why do all the trains smell like everyone's eating mustard salad?

Life can't stop when it's hot, but some of us are weaker than others and have to adjust our entire way of being when the neighborhood turns into a Dutch oven. All I do is wear my vintage summer-muumuus until I'm ready to jump into my 6-foot-deep cucumber slushie pool and wade around drinking iced watermelon juice.

FYI: The wonderful women that allow me to interview them are not only courageous, brilliant, beautiful, profound, sexy... They are also mind-blowingley capable of staying on point, maintaining their cool, and keeping it real when annoying technical glitches interrupt their profundity.

Highlighting the process, teasing the progress, and....

I’m a selfish person working on a selfish project. Interviewing women always ends up being about me. I’m fascinated with these ladies, I’m dedicated to the sincerity of their stories, thrilled to watch them have a revelation. But, I can’t help but make it personal. Isn’t that how we experience everything about everything?

That’s What She Said is...Girly, passion, cancer, desire, sex, relationships, media, politics, self-worth, aging, indie-rock, freckles, home-furnishings, clarinet …

V.

Air-brushed models, sluts who want access to birth-control, "celebrity" teen-mothers telling us abstinence programs REALLY DO work...

and

What should I be? How should I look? What do I really need to buy (gee whizz--- if I could only afford it)?

How do we navigate ourselves through this maze? How do we figure out what we want when the distortion hides our own voices?

It's ok to dream about a successful career, curly red-hair, seducing a clown, bathing in Dip-In-Dots. Understanding why we want what we want can be fascinating, hilarious, enlightening... Life-Saving.

That's What She Said is a documentary series encouraging women to have a real conversation. It isn't what you're supposed to want, it's what you want.

Real women talking----.

We want to hear from you!

Check out this clip from a 1994 documentary about the boardwalk in Wildwood, NJ. Everything about it is mesmerizing. One of many, money quotes (h/t You Tube commenter for transcription):

It's different every night, and different every night it is, because nights are different and every night is just like not every other night. Because different.

It's always good to google terms you think you've coined and frequently use. I just did, and I learned that baby piles are piles (aka HEMORRHOIDS) on a baby. That's plain sad. I'm just talking about pictures of babies piled up, usually on couches, for photo-ops where each child is subsequently tagged as their parent on Facebook. I always imagine what everyone else is doing behind the camera. Laughing at the babies. And how do so many of the babies pass out?

Is this in my head and not really a "thing?" Am I just obsessed because I don't have a baby and when I see a whole bunch of them all alone like little lumps I think I could take a couple? Am I the only person that thinks about this? Possibly..Probably.
