FYI: The wonderful women that allow me to interview them are not only courageous, brilliant, beautiful, profound, sexy... They are also mind-blowingley capable of staying on point, maintaining their cool, and keeping it real when annoying technical glitches interrupt their profundity.

Highlighting the process, teasing the progress, and....

I’m a selfish person working on a selfish project. Interviewing women always ends up being about me. I’m fascinated with these ladies, I’m dedicated to the sincerity of their stories, thrilled to watch them have a revelation. But, I can’t help but make it personal. Isn’t that how we experience everything about everything?

That’s What She Said is...Girly, passion, cancer, desire, sex, relationships, media, politics, self-worth, aging, indie-rock, freckles, home-furnishings, clarinet …

V.

Air-brushed models, sluts who want access to birth-control, "celebrity" teen-mothers telling us abstinence programs REALLY DO work...

and

What should I be? How should I look? What do I really need to buy (gee whizz--- if I could only afford it)?

How do we navigate ourselves through this maze? How do we figure out what we want when the distortion hides our own voices?

It's ok to dream about a successful career, curly red-hair, seducing a clown, bathing in Dip-In-Dots. Understanding why we want what we want can be fascinating, hilarious, enlightening... Life-Saving.

That's What She Said is a documentary series encouraging women to have a real conversation. It isn't what you're supposed to want, it's what you want.

Real women talking----.

We want to hear from you!

Check out this clip from a 1994 documentary about the boardwalk in Wildwood, NJ. Everything about it is mesmerizing. One of many, money quotes (h/t You Tube commenter for transcription):

It's different every night, and different every night it is, because nights are different and every night is just like not every other night. Because different.

Hitchcock and actress Anny Ondra in a sound test for his movie, "Blackmail." Both are wonderfully giddy and disheveled!? If you haven't seen this, it's worth your 42 seconds. If you have seen this, it's worth your 42 seconds.

It's always good to google terms you think you've coined and frequently use. I just did, and I learned that baby piles are piles (aka HEMORRHOIDS) on a baby. That's plain sad. I'm just talking about pictures of babies piled up, usually on couches, for photo-ops where each child is subsequently tagged as their parent on Facebook. I always imagine what everyone else is doing behind the camera. Laughing at the babies. And how do so many of the babies pass out?

Is this in my head and not really a "thing?" Am I just obsessed because I don't have a baby and when I see a whole bunch of them all alone like little lumps I think I could take a couple? Am I the only person that thinks about this? Possibly..Probably.

In case you missed it the first time around... Did you know the vibrator was originally a tool doctors used to treat women's "hysteria" in the 1800's? Did you know in the 1900's women could buy their own handheld-vibrators and deal with this hysteria at home?

All the pleasures of youth…will throb within you.

But, the vibrator disappeared as a useful medical device once it was connected to women's sexual needs, which obviously aren't a real thing.  Even if female sexual desire is legitimate, doing anything about it, I'd say even talking about it, means you're slutty. Which reminds me, have you birth control supporters mapped yourself on this Slut Map? Read more about the history of the vibrator over at Alternet..

This thing looks like it belongs in the garage next to a saw. What's in your drawer? Vibrators have definitely come a long way!

Jocelyn Elders was the first African American and second woman appointed Surgeon General of the US. In 1994, while speaking at World AID's Day, Elders was asked if masturbation might discourage kids from engaging in sexual activity at too young an age. Should it be discussed in sex-ed courses? Her answer:

I think that it is part of human sexuality, and perhaps it should be taught.

Well, you can imagine the response to this filth! Elders was way out of bounds. Young teens don't masturbate. And even if they did, Shhhh! It's better for everyone when kids think they're the only ones that have those special feelings.  Remember: Not talking, is the best way not to talk about reality. In the end, the Clinton administration forced Elders to resign. Yes, THAT Bill Clinton. Maybe if he'd polished-his-knob on a regular basis he wouldn't have Lewinskied.

In 1995, Good Vibrations, a San Francisco sex toy retailer and sexual health and empowerment educator, declared May National Masturbation Month in Elders' honor.

Don't miss the history of the vibrator. AND...While we're on the topic, check out the Ola from our cool friends over at Minni.  ------->

This is our 22 year old fat-tailed Leopard Gecko, Louise, with my brother and his cat Blackout. Only the pets have proper names. If you try this at home, make sure the larger party is satisfyingly fed prior to nuzzling.
